How does Jack respond to working with his uncles? How does he spend his time?

Jack does not communicate with his uncles much, as all of them are quiet men who, to Jack. look like they are lost in thought. Instead, Jack works by himself in the barn, miking the cows and bringing them to and from the pastures, and thinking about the accident over and over again.
