Jack becomes very angry when his father recites Jack's poetry in public. He knows his father means it as a compliment, but it makes Jack angry. Jack finds himself scornful of the poetry Jack selects to read and the emotional, tearful way in which he reads in public. Jack believes his father is behaving falsely, and the family is not truthful about its feelings about David's death.
