Who is John Stewart from Queens' Play and what is their importance?

Lord d'Aubigny, John Stewart, is the former captain of the Royal Guard of Scottish Archers in France. He is also the brother of the Earl of Lennox. Stewart is the man responsible for planning the assassination of Queen Mary.
