Doolittle comes in with fancy clothes and Pickering rather sarcastically asks if Liza buys his clothes.

PICKERING. Has Eliza been buying you clothes?

Doolittle also claims he is hired to speak for a rich American to which Pickering sarcastically says:

PICKERING. A safe thing for you, Doolittle. They won't ask you twice.
