How does Thomas and Charlie get rid of the food they do not like?

Whenever Thomas and Charlie do not like something on their plates, they simply rake it onto Big Joe's plate when their mother isn't looking. Big Joe is happy for the extra food and seems to like the conspiracy of it all as well.
