The main character (protagonist) is Elizabeth Bennet, whose nickname is Lizzie. She is very intelligent and has a dry sense of humor. She sees through alot of the machinations of the ag and the sense of propriety that often inhibits certain behaviors don't stop Lizzie from engaging in them. This is not to say that she has a total lack of decorum. When she learns of Lydia's adventures in Brighton, she is mortified and worried about the family name. Elizabeth is a people watcher and is pretty good at sizing up people....until she meets Darcy, whom she can't read.
