Pride and Prejudice's main character is Elizabeth Bennett. She is her father's favorite daughter, not necessarily for her beauty (though she is) but for her forthright manner and her intellect. She has been afforded many liberties that aren't usually given to women, and this ends up making her more than a good match for Darcy, who has wearied of the usual cotillian coquettes. She learns a great deal about herself throughout the novel, namely that she is just as capable of messing up her life as her sisters, especially when she lets her feelings get the better of her without verifying the facts.
