What did Pretty-shield do during the bear attack on the women picking berries?

When the bear was attacking the women picking berries in Chapter 8, Pretty-shield's mother made her lie down with her sister and then threw a robe over the top of them to hide them. Pretty-shield's sister began to cry and Pretty-shield tried to sing to her, but couldn't because she was so scared.
