After the lawmen leave Silas and begin their approach to the cave, the ghost from the sheriff's office arrives. She wonders where Desimonde went. Silas tells her he went down the creek looking for bad men. She tells Silas that she is Matilda Chalton, Desimonde's sister. She asks Silas to give the sheriff a message if she does not find him. She tells Silas to tell her brother that she left their mother's plum pudding in the bread box, but she ate most of it and she is sorry that she did.
