What happened when Martin took a picture of the full moon for the lunar photo contest?

Martin arranged his photography equipment to take a photo of the full moon near perigee on March 7, 1860. When Martin developed the photo, it was nearly perfect. Martin handed the glass plate to show Silas, and Silas dropped it. The plate broke into pieces and the photo was ruined.
