Spring is saturated with potential as each bud or embryo is poised on the brink of developing into what is at the moment only possibilities. As spring is full of potential, so too is potential full of energy. Thus, spring is full of energy. This energy drives Dillard's mind in many different directions. She has difficulty focusing on one topic for any length of time. Her difficulty in sticking with one idea for long is akin to her difficulty in staying in the present for more than a moment, as was discussed in chapter five.
