Pilgrim at Tinker Creek

Dillard is somewhat obsessed with how creation reproduces itself and the excess with which it does so. How might this "obsession" relate to Dillard's own life or self?

One may wonder if this obsession with the excess of nature has to do with Dillard's own uncertainty of her place in this creation. After all, when considering the millions of separate species and the millions of creatures within each of those species just on the planet earth, it would be not be difficult to understand why Dillard may wonder if humans really do play any significant role in the universe.
