What is the author's style in Patty Jane's House of Curl by Lorna Landvik?

The language of the novel is a simple English. The novel is written with the use of a common language that most readers, even the very youngest, will understand easily. However, the novel also contains many foreign phrases, many of these phrases stemming from the Norwegian heritage of the characters, especially Ione, who is an immigrant from Norway.
