What do the vehicles in the ravine symbolize in “Go Back to Sleep"?

These vehicles that Jay recalls seeing crashed down in the ravines below the road on the way to Lolo and Lola's house represent the dangers of the Philippines. They are from cars driving off the sides of the cliffs.
