When Alex goes to see Jamey in jail, Jamey is said to be extremely skinny, down-trodden and sickly smelling. Jamey is silent for the first twenty minutes of the interview and then finally opens his eyes. Jamey doesn't seem to recognize Alex and is unable to focus on his surroundings. Alex compares Jamey's behavior to that of a zombie.
