What is the author's style in Outlander by Diana Gabaldon?

Although this story was written in the 1990's, there is a distinct knowledge the author portrays when writing about the clansmen of the 1700's. The language is rich and full of original Gaelic folklore and stories. This is a story told in a plain, clear way. The language is simple and easy to read, even in the Gaelic tongue of the clansmen.
