What are the motifs in Origin in Death by Nora Roberts?

Quiet Birth, as described in this novel is a style of birth that occurs entirely outside of the body. Gestation is completed in a tank, timed for the date of birth, and fed via tubing that mimics an umbilical cord. Although they attempt to recreate the environment of birth by playing a recording of a heartbeat, and beginning education by playing tapes of languages and music, a Quiet Birth lacks the one thing that every developing fetus must have. The intangible value of love from a mother to child is lacking in this clinic example of how birth could be handled. There may be some benefits, however. For example, the mother would no longer have to stop working to accommodate the physical issues of pregnancy. There would be no weight gain, or physical discomfort. There is no chance of unnoticed health problems or questionable delivery dates.
