Orozco uses character names to create an atmosphere of violence and explore themes of tragedy and mortality. Some of these characters’ names include Hacker, Stich, Lance, Payne, Spiers, and Nash. All of these names are words that describe violent actions, or actions that involve blood, weapons, and creating wounds. The recurring use of these names creates an atmosphere of violence. Furthermore, these names supplement Orozco’s exploration of themes such as tragedy and mortality. Orozco consistently describes scenes of violence involving the characters, such as the description of Barry Hacker’s wife’s death, so the use of these characters’ names enhances these violent descriptions.
