How does the author use foreshadowing in the novel, One of the Boys?

Storms appear multiple times throughout the novel as a symbol of foreboding. The first storm appears in the first chapter, right before the narrator and his brother are taken by their father to live with him in New Mexico, which turns out to be an unhealthy and abusive living situation for them. Then, later in the book, there is a snow storm that takes place on the day the narrator and his brother plan to take a bus back to Kansas in order to escape from their father and live with their mother again. Much like the plan to move to New Mexico with their father, this plan does not work out for them either as the father contacts the mother before they are able to get there and convinces her to give him another chance.
