Summary about the Arabian Nights, CH 3

• After the Caliph and Ja'afar meet an old fisherman, out of pity they agree to pay him 100 gold pieces for whatever he catches in his net.

• After being unable to find the killer, Ja'afar and his family are to be executed, but are at the last moment saved by the woman's husband and his uncle, who confess to the murder.

• The husband returns home, finds the apple missing, and kills his wife.

• The Caliph states that due to his lie, the slave (who turns out to now be in Ja'afar's service) is responsible for the death.

• The slave is brought before the Caliph, who states he may spare him if the tale of Nur al-Din impresses him.
