What is Wes's Bedroom?

Wes’s bedroom, in the Flatbush loft, symbolizes his character’s emotionally guarded nature. Throughout the novel, Wes does not allow anyone to enter his room; he keeps his space private even from his close friends. In the same manner, Wes guards his emotions and tries to remain emotionally aloof. He is afraid that other people will find him disappointing if he allows them into his heart. Later, when Wes allows August into his room, he is inviting her into his emotional sphere and finding the courage to pursue a relationship with Isaiah.
