Why does Cecile initially bring her daughters to the People's Center in the novel, One Crazy Summer?

Initially, Delphine and her sisters go to the People’s Center daily on the orders of Cecile, who is more interested in breakfast than the Black Panthers. Ultimately, however, Cecile becomes more interested in the Black Panthers and the counterculture than food.
