In Chapter Two, why does Bri tell Aunt Pooh she is worried about Jay, Bri's mother?

In Chapter Two, Bri tells Aunt Pooh she is worried about Jay, Bri's mother, because Jay served what Bri calls "popkenchurch" for dinner - a mish-mash of different foods from three different places. Bri knows Jay only serves popkenchurch for dinner when something bad has happened.
