What is the author's tone in the memoir, On Immunity?

While author Eula Biss describes herself as a nervous new mother when her first child, a son, was born, she was also a dedicated researcher who wanted to dig deeply into the subject of inoculations and childhood vaccines and find answers about their safety and benefit.
