Why was it necessary to kill Lennie in the book Of Mice and Men?

I am writing an essay and i choose this topic. i have 2 reasons but i need a third one. If you can perfect the wording or think of better reasons please help.

he kept hurting innocent people

he had lots of enemies trying to kill him

George wanted to spare Lennie a slow and horrific death. His fate was sealed as a result of Curly's wife's death. Curly and the others were searching for him.... a hanging was inferred. George felt a quick death was preferrable, and he wished to spare Lennie the fear and panic being taken by the others would cause.
