George loved playing practical jokes on Lennie, as did many other. One day George played a joke that might have had tragic results. He told Lennie to jump in the river, even while knowing Lennie couldn't swim. Lennie almost drown, but George was able to pull him out. The most shocking thing of all..... Lennie was grateful to George for saving him, completely forgetting that George was the one who told him to jump in the first place.

An' he was so damn nice to me for pullin' him out. Clean forgot I told him to jump in.
