Comment on the cinimatography?

Cinematographer Kenneth MacMillan uses muted colours and dark shades to convey a sense of isolation and loneliness. Many of the still scenes are a work of art, almost like a tableau using bits of light in the right places. The cinematography really accomplishes Steinbeck's vision of the book.
