Number the Stars, by Lois Lowry, is told from the point of view of Annemarie Johansen, a girl living in Denmark during WWII. It is told in first person limited, meaning that the reader ONLY knows what Annemarie knows. As the story unfolds, the shock and surprise of discovery is as real for the reader as it is for Annemarie. Especially poignant is when she uncovers the details about her family's involvement with helping Jews get away, and the death of her sister Lise.
