Sherwood Forest symbolizes several things throughout the novel but one of the most prominent is that is symbolizes a true home for Robin. He has sought to escape his boyhood home for many years and is dismayed that "it even smelled more like home" (75). Robin feels a sense of comfort within Sherwood Forest and it greatly reminds him of his youth.

Sherwood Forest also serves as a symbol of freedom for the outcasts of Nottingham, who have been pushed out of their homes but debt and corrupt leaders.
