Why do the twins run away in Chapter Six? Where do they go?

The twins run away in Chapter Six when Lillian falls asleep. She finds them at the edge of the woods that border the estate. When questioned by Lillian, Bessie says they ran away because everyone would be happier and life would be easier for everyone if they were gone.
