How does Madison convince Lillian to stay at the estate in Chapter One?

Madison convinces Lillian to stay at the estate by reminding her that Lillian has no reason to return home. Madison tells her she will buy her whatever she wants, including new clothing. Lillian thinks of the old attic and her dead-end jobs and agrees she has no reason to return.
