What is "The Theory" in the novel, Notes on an Execution?

“The Theory” is Ansel Packer's theory of human existence. It has two main components. The first, and somewhat lesser, is the idea that there is no such thing as pure good or pure evil – or, for that matter, pure anything. The second is Packer's belief that there are multiple realities, and that human choice defines each individual experience of reality.
