As a character in section 2, J.C. is important due to Bukowski's use of him to show his own beliefs about religion. J.C. is a young man who appears to a ball club manager with wings attached to his back. J.C. is a Christ-figure: he simply symbolizes Bukowski's belief that God has abandoned man.
