What was the intended purpose of the Ghost Dance in relation to colonialism?

The tribes who engaged in the Ghost Dance hoped that by performing the dance, the colonizers would be consumed. Many cultures believed that when the Ghost Dance achieved its goal, the Indians would be suspended in the sky for the time it took to do away with the colonizers, and then the Indians would be placed back down upon their rightful land.
