What do apples represent to the Osgood family in the novel, North Woods?

Charles Osgood's apples are symbolic of promise. Much like the apple in the Biblical Garden of Eden myth, Charles's apples offer him the chance at a new life. He does not give up on the dream of his apples, because he believes that this dream might transform his past and reinvent his present.
