Do you think Emanuel Goldstein exists?

Emmanuel Goldstein is the enemy of the Party. We learn that he was a traitor who taught sin to the people. Like Big Brother, we are not sure if Goldstein is a real person. I don't think he exists, if he existed at all. He is simply an image for people to hate. Dogma is not enough fore people to grasp on to. They need a visual, a person to place all their fear and hate at. Emmanuel Goldstein served this purpose.
