What does Demond offer Kiara, and why does she decide that is not what she wants?

Demond tells Kiara his girls are only out two or three nights a week and they take in $2,000 each. Kiara realizes that he will not protect her and make things easier, even if she makes more money. She would be giving up any chance at freedom or a life "outside the night world" (127).
