In "Night of the Living Rez," Paige develops a fascination with zombies. Zombies are well-known for being lurching, insensate, and rotted in the brain. As this obsession develops, so too does Paige and Frick's dependency on alcohol; both of them are gradually rendered so affected by their addiction that they cannot recognize reality; Paige does not know who David is, and Frick, paranoid of Jesuits, sexually assaults Paige while out of his head. The zombie as a cultural icon thus stands in for the effects of alcoholism on the people in David's life.
