Who is Maya from Soulmate from Night World No. 2: Dark Angel; the Chosen; Soulmate and what is their importance?

Maya is the first ever vampire. Originally a witch living in the Stone Age, Maya created a spell that turned her into a vampire and gave her immortality. Due to a crush on Thierry, Maya chose him as the first person she changed into a vampire so that he might be her companion for eternity. However, Thierry is not happy being a vampire and he runs away, eventually finding himself in the midst of the Three Rivers clan.
