Under what conditions is ConaLee allowed to stay with her mother at the asylum?

After speaking with Dr. Story and telling him and Matron Bowman the story about ConaLee being her mother's companion, Dr. Story tells ConaLee that he would like to employ her to be Miss Janet's attendant, to share her room, look after her, and accompany her on her assigned regiment. He cannot pay her, but he will give her room and board. If it works out having ConaLee there, she can stay and learn more about dealing with the patients at the asylum.
