After the Sharpshooter was burned and hit his head, his fellow soldiers stripped off his burning clothes. A surgeon wrapped the Sharpshooter's head tightly and sent him on the last ambulance to leave the battlefield, which rendezvoused with a boat of injured sailing direct to Alexandria. At the hospital there, an elderly surgeon treated the Sharpshooter removing the shards of bone from his skull and treating the wound where the man's eye had been. The surgeon had a nurse stay with the Sharpshooter and tend to him. With her care, he was saved and recuperated.
