Edward Cullen from New Moon is Bella's former boyfriend. It is only 'former' in that he decides in this second book of the series, to separate from her for her own good. However, it is during this absence that they both realize that being away from one another is not going to work either, setting up a conflict of epic proportions. Edward strives to live by a higher code, electing (like the others in the Cullen household) to forego human blood. Bella's blood calls to Edward while at the same time he has fallen in love with her. Danger follows him everywhere and he does not want Bella to be a part of that.
