Why do Rukmani and Nathan not stay with Murugan's wife?

Ammu is struggling to make ends meet and feed her children. Rukmani can see that Ammu is worried about having two more mouths to feed and realizes that she cannot ask Ammu to care for them after Rukmani's son deserted his own wife.
