Originally named Gomez Suarez de Figueroa, Garcilaso de le Vega was a historian and writer from 16th and early 17th century Peru. Later calling himself 'El Inca', Garcilaso was born half-Incan, the son of both Spanish aristocrats and Incan nobility, though he was born outside of marriage. Nonetheless, Garcilaso received an inheritance when his father died. He had two half-sisters. El Inca lived from 1539 to 1616. In the 1560s, El Inca traveled to Spain to stay due to dangers posed to the Incan royal line. El Inca received a top-notch education in Spain after he arrived.
