How does Mrs. Auld treat Douglass when he first arrives?

Never having owned slaves, Mrs. Auld is kindness itself when Douglass arrives. She didn't require subservience, wanted Douglass to look at her when he spoke, and even tried to teach him his alphabet. Unfortunately, this doesn't last long before she changes completely.
