How do Sam and Matt spend their time together over Matt's spring vacation?

Sam and Mat spend the week fishing, hunting, and trapping. They also gather greens and bulbs. Matt stops talking as much and sleeps, hikes, and ponders. He eats a lot, and makes himself moccasins and a hat out of deer hide.
