How did Sam describe the Jack-in-the-pulpit and how to eat it?

Sam said that Jack-in-the-pulpits had three big leaves on a stalk and were easily recognized by the curly striped awning above a stiff, serious preacher named Jack. The root or corm tasted and looked like a potato, but should never be eaten raw.
