Thomas Edison once employed Tesla as an assistant. Before long, Edison put Tesla in charge of designing electrical motors for his electric company. Edison was deeply impressed by Tesla's work ethic, long hours, and ability. The two, however, had a falling out over pay, which resulted in Tesla leaving Edison's employ. Tesla later sold the patents for his own design of an electric motor to Westinghouse, which put him in direct competition with Edison.
