How do Caroline and Father differ in their views about "possessions" in the novel, My Abandonment?

While living on the farm, Caroline viwes the possessions at their house as a symbol of stability and even luxury. For Father, these possessions symbolize being tied to one place with responsibilities that make it easier to be tracked and controlled.
