Who is George Kraft from Mother Night and what is their importance?

George Kraft, otherwise known as Colonal Iona Potapov, is the narrator's neighbor in New York and also a Russian spy operating in the United States. He is a talented painter and chess player. He befriends the narrator and ultimately betrays him. He is such a good spy, he is willing to exploit the things that he loves in order to benefit his cause.
